BRIGHT BEGINNINGS

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS
Bright Beginnings is an early intervention program for children who demonstrate unique learning styles. We help children learn to communicate effectively and to build and establish relationships with others so that they can successfully transition into the most appropriate typical school setting.
WHO WE SERVE
Bright Beginnings is designed for children from birth to age three (up to age 6 at Lynn Center in Brentwood, when referred by a school district, after the child turns 3) with significant communication and social delays and for those who may have a diagnosis of Regulatory Disorder or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
WHAT WE DO
Bright Beginnings helps children learn new skills using techniques and methodologies specifically designed for each individual child.

We operate daily, Monday through Friday, in preschool settings.
PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
Children in Bright Beginnings are referred to us by the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB) and local school districts. For more information, contact 925-625-4918.
TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGIES
These four research-based approaches, recognized nationally as best practices, are used to meet each child's unique needs:
  • Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) This methodology emphasizes highly structured, visually-oriented learning environments. The predictability of events in a TEACCH classroom reduces anxiety and allows the child to function more independently.
  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) Some children have little or no verbal skills, while others with a large vocabulary may not be able to use their language functionally. PECS is a visually-based method for teaching communication. Children use pictures to ask for items, beginning with food or highly interesting toys, and gradually advance towards the use of complex verbal language.
  • Floor Time All young children, including children with special needs, show their preferences through play. By following children and developing interaction based on the child's interests, early intervention specialists use Floor Time techniques in naturally-occurring circumstances as teaching opportunities.
  • Intensive Instruction We use the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with very specific objectives and documentation to assess receptive knowledge, teach specific academic content, and to develop and maintain new skills.
